THE 4 C'S OF GEMSTONES
Clarity refers to a gemstone’s relative absence of defects, also called clarity characteristics.
Clarity characteristics include inclusions, found within the stone, or blemishes, found on the surface. A gemstone with fewer clarity characteristics is rarer.
Each variety of gemstone has its own clarity standards. Some varieties of colored gemstones, such as topaz and citrine, have naturally fewer inclusions. Other gemstones, such as emerald and ruby, tend to have a higher rate of acceptable inclusions.
