120 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE AND INNOVATION
Daniel Swarovski and his business partner Franz Weis arrived with their families in a small village called Wattens in Western Austria on October 2, 1895 after a two-day rail journey from their former home in Bohemia. They were struck by the beauty of its location in the Alps, and by the bewilderment of the local people as to what two crystal cutters from another country were doing in their quiet farming community.
Swarovski, the company the two men founded in that small rural community is now one of the world’s most famous brand names, with a diverse range of products, more than 30,000 employees and stores in 170 countries. For 120 years, five generations of family members have sought new ways to create finished products and sparkling components that both amaze and inspire. They also aspired to enhance the beauty and appeal of these products by fostering collaborations with the most inspiring creative minds of their eras.
Experimentation has always been part of Swarovski’s culture, leading the company from one milestone of creative innovation to the next. As the company has grown, this journey of experimentation has nurtured the production of loose crystals, genuine gemstones and created stones, jewelry, watches, home décor, chandeliers, binoculars, telescopes, and even tool-making and road safety products. Crystal Worlds, the company’s homage to the beauty and fascination of crystal at Wattens is an important national and regional cultural tourist attraction, and Swarovski now also engages in film production. Daniel Swarovski’s legacy of exquisite craftsmanship in all of these fields has created something truly remarkable: a family company with a radiant heart and a pioneering spirit that makes everyday extraordinary for millions of people.
