Disruption and Direction
Exploring Today’s Diverse Challenges in the Jewelry World
Swarovski recently invited customers and guests to a debate, which took a fresh new approach to exploring the challenges of today’s business and personal worlds. Entitled Disruption & Direction, six speakers engaged in the lively 90-minute discussion, including an HEC business school professor, a jewelry producer, an artistic director, a jeweler journalist, a jewelry expert, and a substantiality expert specializing in the luxury market.
Held at the Palais de Tokyo (Palace of Tokyo, Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris), the event was well-attended by representatives from designers and brands, manufactories, and the media. Antigone Schilling, the well-known French journalist who specializes in luxury, was the evening's moderator. On the panel were Sandrine Merle, journalist, jewelry expert and founder of "The French Jewelry Post’; Han Na Capedeville – former artistic director of the Agatha brand, now a freelance designer; Gachoucha Kretz, HEC business school professor and luxury brand strategist; Cécile Lochard, CSR specialist in luxury; and Alexandre Coquet, entrepreneur and CEO of Bellon & Fils.
The panel looked at ways in which the jewelry industry is being disrupted, the challenges of today’s consumer attitudes, the jewelry purchasing experience, sourcing materials, and sustainability. They also examined the opportunities that could follow this period of disruption, debating what might be new directions and new markets, means of distribution, and fresh, dynamic creativity. The panel discussion was followed by cocktails, which provided the ambiance with which to continue the open and sparkling discussions.
