THE JEWEL OF THAILAND
An Artistic Triumph Crowned with Swarovski Zirconia
The Jewel of Thailand ensemble was revealed at the recent Miss Universe National Costume event in Thailand in what was a breathtaking ‘coup de theatre’. The costume now has the distinction of being the Thai creation with the highest monetary value to date. The designer took inspiration from the ‘Siwalai’ dress, a contemporary, westernized style of Thai royal dress worn by Queen Sirikit in 1960. Its intricate patterns reflect the influence of Thai architecture as exemplified by the spectacular Grand Palace, now redesigned in pure Art Deco flamboyance.
It took more that a hundred artisans with various Haute Couture skills to create the garment. Accompanied by brilliantly regal jewelry, made with show-stopping Swarovski Zirconia, the gown is a vision of pure elegance fit for a queen. The design, craftsmanship, and skill are all representative of Thailand's national pride. The costume was designed to be worn by Chalita Suansane, herself a national jewel, and to be a source of inspiration for woman around the globe.
