Fusing fashion and science, Swarovski and
designer Lauren Bowker collaborated on the creation of an unbelievable
headpiece featuring over 4,000 Swarovski Gemstones. At the helm of The Unseen,
a design and art studio in London, Bowker works to integrate science and
fashion through the use of special materials. In the case of the Swarovski
headdress, Bowker chose to use Swarovski Genuine Black Spinel stones because
their material composition is similar to that found in the human bone. When worn as part of the headdress, each
stone acts as a conduction insulator, thereby absorbing energy loss from the
head. This energy loss is then visualized through the precisely cut stones via
a color change gradient (black to orange, red, green, blue, and then purple).
Because of this color-changing property, the headpiece is said to offer a
reflection of inner human thought when worn. The one-of-a-kind headpiece was on
display as part of London Fashion Week in 2014.
